Pre-School Programs
About the Museum's pre-school programs
The years before age 5 are critical to a child's development. In addition to special programs throughout the year, our weekly pre-school programs build school-readiness as children and caregivers have fun learning together. Space is limited. Please sign up when you arrive at the Museum!
Pre-School Pop-In: Ages 3 – 5
Wednesdays
10:30 a.m.

There will be no Tot Time January 1 or April 9
Join us for songs, stories and other fun group activities that focus on school readiness, and strengthening vocabulary and social skills.
Tot Time: Ages 1 – 3

There will be no Pre-School Pop-In March 25 or April 8
Singing, listening to stories, playing games and joining in activities for our youngest visitors are the first, critical steps in building academic and social skills for a lifetime. Join us for fun and games that are all about learning.
Music Makers: Ages 2 – 5

Sing, listen, play rhythm instruments and move to music with staff from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
Zumbini™: Age 3 and younger

Join instructor Karen Mikolainis for fun, music, movement and dance in this 30-minute sample class.
Music and Me: Ages 2 - 5

Music activities are an important and fun way to build literacy, math and social skills. Join us to explore music, instruments, and musical storytelling.
Naomi’s Music Together: 5 and younger
March 25
10 a.m. & 11 a.m.

Play instruments, chant rhythms and move to music during this 30-minute class with Naomi Bodine, a teacher trained in the Music Together ® program. This program is known for its developmentally appropriate research-based curriculum.

About Be A Maker programs
This series offers opportunities for the children and families who visit the Museum to explore a broad range of do-it-yourself maker activities using a variety of materials, real tools, digital resources and technology that make it fun to tinker, learn new skills and create something unique!

BAM: Jedi
December 13 & 27
1 p.m.

Age 7 and older. Construct a lightsaber!

Maximum capacity of 25 makers; wristbands available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at noon on the day of the program.
Fiber Spinning
January 10 & 24
1 p.m.

Age 6 and older. Learn how to dye and spin yarn using raw wool fleece and kool-aid with special guest Alysia Owczarski from Village Spinners.
Model Railroading
January 17, February 21 and March 21
1 - 3 p.m.

Join us for hands-on hobby train fun with WM. K. Walthers, Inc. model railroad specialists!

Children will be the contestants in a fast-paced game show that will help them develop their financial vocabulary and learn to make smart decisions. This facilitated play will teach children about earning, spending, saving and sharing. Suggested for age 4 and older.
Get Growing with Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens

Learn about flowers that grow from a bulb, if a groundhog can predict when spring will arrive, how to use weather to plan a garden, and how to grow plants using kitchen scraps!

Story Time Yoga

Calling all engineers, technicians and artists! Team up with other makers to build components for a large-scale collaborative sculpture that will be displayed at BBCM, then construct your own piece to take home. Mentors from BBCM and Milwaukee Makerspace will introduce tools, materials and techniques for endless ways to experiment and create.

Be A Maker programs during Neighborhood Night are presented by the Brady Corporation Foundation with additional support provided by Time Warner Cable, and by a grant from the City of Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.: Milwaukee Public Television’s Young Writers & Illustrators Workshop
Learn the basics of story construction, and how illustrations can help tell a story. Participants will create their own story and have the opportunity to enter it in MPTV’s 21st annual PBS Kids Writers Contest. For more information visit mptv.org/kids. Workshop seating is limited. Recreate stories inspired by stage productions and classic children’s literature. Activities will encourage self-expression, concentration, and cooperation. Suggested for age 3 and older.
The Anderson Insect Zoo

Learn about the fascinating world of insects with entomologists from Anderson Pest Solutions as they visit the Museum and bring some of their insect friends for children to experience up close.
Children’s Dental Health Month – a partnership with Dental Associates

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! Join professionals from Dental Associates for special programs where kids can learn fun facts about visiting the dentist and participate in an interactive teeth-brushing activity that’s sure to get them excited about cleaning at least twice each day!

NanoDays

Nanometer-sized things are very small, and often behave differently than larger things do. NanoDays is a nationwide celebration of nanoscale science – celebrate with us and enjoy activities throughout the Museum!

The Betty Brinn Children’s Museum opened its doors on April 4, 1995. Help us celebrate our 20 years in Milwaukee with fun, educational birthday-themed workshops, every day during Spring Break week at 10:30 a.m. & 2 p.m.

Enjoy a special version of Goldilocks & the Three Bears during a 45-minute performance. Suggested for children age 3 and older.
