How do I qualify for a Family Focus membership?

Families may qualify for the free Family Focus membership if any of the following apply:

  • A family has a combined household income of less than $40,000 per year
  • A family receives assistance such as Badgercare Insurance/Forward card, Quest, Title 19, WIC or Medicaid

  • A child is in Head Start

  • Other qualifications may also be considered. If you think you might qualify, but are unsure, please call (414)390-KIDS (5437), ext. 228, or email familyfocus@bbcmkids.org.

How can I apply for a Family Focus membership?

One adult per family must participate in a Museum orientation and provide proof of qualification including, but not limited to: documents proving participation in BadgerCare Plus, WIC, Title 19, Quest or Head Start; licensed foster parent documentation; an Individualized Education Plan (IEP); a W2 income form; or documents proving that a child is a military dependent with a deployed caregiver.

Family Focus orientation

Orientation dates with spots available:

  • Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 6:30 p.m.

  • You must pre-register for the Family Focus orientation. Please e-mail familyfocus@bbcmkids.org or call 414-390-KIDS (5437), ext. 228. Provide your name, the orientation date you would like to attend, a phone number and an e-mail address so that we may confirm your registration.
  • Each orientation is open to the first 60 families that pre-register.
  • If you cannot attend on the date for which you have registered, please call the Museum at 414-390-KIDS (5437), ext. 228 to cancel at least 24 hours in advance so that your space may be given to another participant. Registrants who do not contact us in advance to cancel may lose reservation opportunities for future orientations.
  • Upon arrival, please check in at the Museum’s Information Desk and let a Visitor Assistant know that you are registered for the Family Focus orientation.
  • The orientation is for adults and only one adult per family needs to attend the orientation (approximately 40 minutes). Children are welcome to play in the Museum during the orientation but must be accompanied by an adult. We encourage you to invite another adult to join you on the day of your orientation so that your children can enjoy the Museum while you attend the orientation. For those families who are unable to bring another adult, child care will be available for children 18 months to 17 years old.
  • Families may play in the Museum before and after the orientation; the orientation and Museum visit are free.
  • Upon completion of the orientation and a survey, you will receive a free parking voucher for the O’Donnell Park Garage (located under the Museum, entrances on Michigan Street or Lincoln Memorial Parkway) or the US Bank garage (accessible on Clybourn Street) or free bus passes.

  • Questions about Family Focus?

Please email familyfocus@bbcmkids.org or xall (414)390-KIDS(5437), ext. 228.

When do I need to renew my Family Focus membership?
Families eligible to renew must fill out a Renewal Application and provide qualifying proof by the last day of the month that your membership expires. If your membership has been expired for more than two months, you must attend an orientation session in order to renew.

How can I renew my Family Focus membership?

    1. Print the Family Focus renewal application here or request a renewal application when you visit the Museum.

    2. Complete the form and mail it, with a copy of your qualifying proof, to:
    Betty Brinn Children’s Museum
    Attn: Family Focus
    929 E. Wisconsin Ave.
    Milwaukee, WI 53202

Or, it may be submitted with a copy of your qualifying proof at the Information Desk.

    3. When you visit the Museum at least FOUR times during the 12 months of your membership, your membership is FREE on your next renewal date! If you qualify for the free membership renewal but do not visit the Museum at least four times during the 12 months of your membership, you may still renew your Family Focus membership for $10. You must renew each year during your expiration month even if you are eligible to renew for free.

If your membership has been expired for more than two months, you must attend an orientation session in order to renew.

    Support for Family Focus

Major support for Family Focus is provided by A.O. Smith Foundation, Richard and Ethel Herzfeld Foundation, Molly and Patrick Gallagher, Krause Family Foundation and Quad/Graphics.

Family Focus remains central to the Museum's mission to provide early learning opportunities for all children and families in our community. Because the Museum does not receive operating assistance from the United Way, UPAF, or from city, county, or state governments, annual contributions are critical to sustaining our mission and important programs like Family Focus.

If your business would like to support this important program, please click here. If you are an individual who would like to make a gift to support free memberships for families, please click here.
